Privacy
Penvyn works locally on your Mac and in your own network. No Penvyn cloud for call data.
Short Version
Penvyn connects to your FRITZ!Box to fetch call history, phonebook data, answering machine messages and live call events. The app does not operate a cloud service for call data. Call data, audio files and notes are not sent to a Penvyn server.
Processed Data
Penvyn can process the following data locally:
- FRITZ!Box address and profile name
- FRITZ!Box username
- FRITZ!Box password stored in the macOS Keychain
- FRITZ!Box call history
- Live call events
- Metadata and, on explicit request, audio from integrated FRITZ!Box answering machines
- FRITZ!Box phonebook data, if enabled
- Mac Contacts, if enabled
- Conversation notes entered by the user
- Local app settings
- Local menu bar status and count of new missed calls
- Callback status and contact hint preferences, if enabled
- Bounded technical diagnostic events for connection, live monitor, answering machine, call barring and contact transfer
Storage
- Passwords are stored in the macOS Keychain.
- Settings, notes and callback status are stored locally in the user's Mac account.
- Penvyn does not send call data or notes to a Penvyn server.
- The menu bar icon shows no names or phone numbers, only status and optionally a count of new missed calls.
- Technical diagnostic events are stored locally with a strict size limit and without phone numbers, contacts, notes, profile names, usernames, or passwords.
Diagnostic Reports
A diagnostic report is exported as a local file only when explicitly requested by the user and is never transmitted automatically. The provider only receives access if the user sends the file to Support. Support files are used solely to handle the relevant request and are deleted once they are no longer needed for that purpose.
External Connections
By default, Penvyn only connects locally to the FRITZ!Box. An external connection is opened only when the user explicitly chooses Search Number from the context menu. In that case, Penvyn opens a Google search via google.de in the default browser.
Contacts
Contacts are read locally to match names and optional photos to phone numbers. The optional phonebook transfer is started manually. After preview and confirmation, Penvyn sends only the selected names and phone numbers directly over the local network to the selected phonebook on the active FRITZ!Box. Contact photos are not transferred, and existing entries are not changed or deleted automatically. Penvyn does not upload contacts to a Penvyn server.
Answering Machine
Penvyn loads message lists from integrated FRITZ!Box answering machines directly over the local network. A message's audio file is fetched from the active FRITZ!Box only when playback starts and is not archived permanently by Penvyn or sent to a Penvyn server. Deleting one or more messages changes the active FRITZ!Box and requires explicit confirmation.
Call Barring
If the user explicitly confirms Block Number, Penvyn tries to add that number to the FRITZ!Box call barring list. Penvyn does not block numbers automatically.
App Store Privacy
Penvyn does not collect data for App Store privacy purposes. The app processes data locally on the user's device and does not automatically transmit it to the developer or to a Penvyn server.
